As readers who have seen, bought and read several boxedset with multiple authors, I'm sure you wonder, how did the author chose their particular story? or why did this author decide to do a boxseted set? or What's the purpose?. Well, I'm bringing you those answers.
Today I present to you, Bridget Midway, the author of "Last Call" in Scandalous Heroes...
If you remember one thing about Bridget, remember that she was writing BDSM years before it was popular. "Before there was Fifty Shades...there was Midway." (you can quote me on that)
Eminence Dutton has to make some crucial decisions about work, her
struggling love life, and an invitation from a former friend. The only thing
that would complicate her life more would be to see her old high school
boyfriend.
Keys “Tank” Tanksley thought he had gotten Eminence Dutton out of his
system. Now a BDSM Dom, this man does not plan on letting this woman go without
being heard or without her experiencing the sting of his whip.
When Tank tries to rekindle the relationship with Eminence, she has
to wonder what’s important: her dream or her heart
SASSE: Tell me how you came up with the plot for your story in the Scandalous Hero boxed set.
Lady Bridget: Last Call was actually released a couple of years ago with a publisher that has now folded. I've always loved the story and saw the potential to do so much more with it. So when the 9 of us came up with this box set idea, I thought it would be perfect opportunity to both enhance the story itself and expand it from a novella to a full-length novel. The hero, Keys "Tank" Tanksley had always been an alpha male in the first version. In this one for the Scandalous Heroes box set, I've made him a BDSM Dom, which actually wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. It gave me a better insight into his character.
SASSE: Is your story connected to a series you write?
Lady Bridget: Last Call is not connected to any other story I have written. It is a standalone piece.
SASSE: What was the most challenging scene to write?
Lady Bridgt: BDSM play scenes are always a challenge to write. Not only do you have to depict the actual play correctly, because this is a real Lifestyle that people engage in, but you also have to portray the emotional feelings of your characters before, during and after play. You have to be able to put your readers in the characters' head space so that they can experience it the same way as the characters. That's always a challenge because not every reader wants to be spanked, although with a character like Tank, I'm not sure why not.
SASSE: Did you have celebrity inspiration for your hero(s) and heroine?
Lady Bridget: I always start off my writing by imagining what my characters would actually look like if my story could be made into a movie. So, yes, I absolutely had people in mind for my characters. For Tank, I picture him looking like WWE superstar John Cena. I love that he's all tall, muscular, good-looking and hot! Plus he has that look like he could handle business while putting you over his knee. For the heroine, Eminence Dutton, I picture her looking like "The Talk" co-host and actress Aisha Tyler. With her being so tall and gorgeous, I thought the two of them together would make a striking couple, no pun intended.
SASSE: Why did you choose to join the Scandalous Heroes boxed set with these 8 other authors?
Lady Bridget: When 8 of the best-selling interracial romance authors asks you to contribute to a box set, the automatic answer is yes! This was a no-brainer. And the fact that we all agreed that this would be a huge thank-you to our faithful and loyal readers let me know that I had aligned myself with the right group. I am so proud to be a part of this collection. This may never happen again for me, so I am thankful for this opportunity, and I am thrilled at the positive feedback so far.
SASSE: What do you want the readers/romance world to take away from the collection once they read it?
Lady Bridget: I would love for readers to get the full breadth of what interracial romance authors have to offer in the way of fiction. We're not all writing just contemporary romances. Some of us are doing mafia (Italian and Russian), some are doing paranormal, some historical, urban fiction, and I did BDSM. Just because we're in a specific subgenre, interracial romance, doesn't mean we don't have other ways to express ourselves. Gauging from the reviews, it looks like they like the diversity. I'm thrilled about that.
