About Me

My photo
I love romance and writing it is one of my greatest pleasures. Along with writing romance, I love sitting back and talking with authors that love romance just as much as I do. Since I've been reading romance since I was sixteen years old I am a book lover that still reads lots of books in a month. So, weekly I will also post my book picks. They may be picks that are new releases or maybe a favorite book of mine. On this blog you will see books featured by ALL romance genres.

Shades of Desire: LENA HART

Hello SASSE Readers, over the next 10 days I will be hosting a different author in the Shades of Desire into our SASSE World. Join me in learning more about these wonderful authors and their stories in this boxset. Ten titillating tales from USA Today, bestselling and award-winning authors. Step into the world of some of the freshest voices in romance; from spicy secrets to sweet second chances. Get enticed by your perfect shade of desire.
Athena Lewis has a sharp mind and an even sharper attitude. Except when it comes to “Davie,” the only man who’s ever truly made her feel safe. Yet to protect the only family she has left, she must embark on a mission that goes against everything she believes in, and that includes using the last trick she has left. Her body.

SASSE: Tell the readers a little about yourself. Why did you decide to be a part of Shades of Desire with your fellow authors?
SoD Author Lena: Well, I like to consider myself an author of romances with “incredible love and unforgettable passion.” My heroines are always strong yet slightly vulnerable black women and my heroes are sexy, alpha men who are never shy about going after the women they want. Through USA Today bestselling author Wendy Ely, I got a chance to be a part of this box set and feature one of my favorite couples in the set. It has been a blast—and an honor—to work with these 9 fabulous women. Writing can be solitary work so whenever I can get a chance to collaborate with other great authors, I’m all for it!

SASSE: How did you come up with this story? What is your story about?

SoD Author Lena: HIS BEDPOST QUEEN is about old friends who reunite under extreme yet sexy circumstances to eventually become lovers. The story follows the theme of the 4 card suits (clover, spades, heart, diamonds) and what each Queen of that suit represents. Since the Queen of Spades is known for her self-mastery, I came up with a heroine that best represented that and the story unfolded. Athena Lew, the heroine, is blackmailed into stealing from the hero, David Carrone, who is her childhood crush but things don’t go at all like she planned and she finds herself caught in her own web of deception.

SASSE:  Do you use celebrity inspiration for your characters? If so, who inspired your hero and heroine?

SoD Author Lena: Yes, most times I do. I love to pull “celebrity-look-alikes” for my characters to help me better picture them and give others a point of reference as to who I’m thinking of could play my characters in a movie. I would say for my characters in HIS BEDPOST QUEEN, the celebrity-look-alikes would be Matt Bomer (White Collar) for my hero David, but with ink-black hair and piercing gray eyes. For my heroine, Athena, I imagine a young Aisha Tyler with all the attitude of Tyler’s character Lana Kane (Archer)—equipped with the husky voice, bangs, and thigh-high boots, lol.

SASSE: Is your story in the boxset part of a series? If it is, where does it fall in the line up?

SoD Author Lena: Yes, my story is book 2 in my Queen Quartette series and I chose to feature HIS BEDPOST QUEEN in the set because I believed it was a better start to the series for new-to-me readers to get a sense of my work and it had the perfect blend of sexy sweetness needed for our set. Though readers don’t have to read each story in the series in order, it’s much more fun if they do.

SASSE: For fun, tell the readers and interesting factoid about you?

SoD Author Lena: Because I love a good mystery, how about I give you two truths and a lie, lol.

1) I’m a Floridian who can’t drive
2) I spent the first 8 years of my life afraid of toasters—still not sure why I was, but to this day I don’t own a toaster, lol
3) Over 10 stories published—and many love scenes later—and I still blush and giggle over every love scene I write.
Can you guess which one is the lie? Check out my Amazon Author page for the truths. J

SASSE: Thank you SoD Author Lena, this has been just delightful to sit back with you and learn a little more about you and your story.

SoD Author Lena: Thank you, Yvette, for hosting me and my fellow box set authors this week on your blog! The whole journey has been a wild ride but a lot of fun and we’re all very much looking forward to release day. J

Hello SASSE Readers, let’s welcome the one and only Pepper Pace to our SASSE World. I have the great opportunity to sit back with one of my Scandalous sisters and enjoy some urban jazz music and cognac…because you got to do smooth when it comes to hanging out with Pep.

SASSE: Pepper, you are Urban Contemporary Romance Fiction at its finest. You bring a classical 70’s grit, knowledge and harmony to the romance genre like no one else can. So, modern day Zora Neal Hurston, tell us about The Shadow People.

Pepper: Thank you Yvette. The Shadow People is a huge departure from what people are used to reading from me. To put it bluntly, it is scary. It is about a young woman who discovers as a teen that she is sensitive to the paranormal world. So when a new friend describes being visited nightly by ‘shadowy figures’ the heroine tries to get to the bottom of it. By doing so, she opens herself up to these shadow figures. What follows is this slow, creepy, mystery that the girl must uncover before it’s too late for her. Of course, because I am Pepper Pace, it is an IR story and there is some hot sexiness and yes … an HEA. So don’t get too scared!

SASSE:  Where did you come up with the idea The Shadow People?

Buy the Book
Pepper:  The Shadow People are a true phenomenon and their visitations have occurred to hundreds of thousands of people, including myself. I will bet that if asked there are more people who have seen these Shadow People than who haven’t. Or… it just might mean that I attract more friends that experience these odd occurrences, lol. I’m not sure which is more true.

For years I would not talk about or think about the Shadow People, and then one day I felt compelled to bring up the topic with a close friend and that is how I learned that there was an actual name for it. I learned that the EXACT thing that I had witnessed was witnessed by others and had been described in great detail. I then talked to a few other close friends about it and almost all of them had experiences with The Shadows or something similar. What intrigued me is that none of my friends were afraid of them. I was the only one that was terrified. So I wrote The Shadow People based on my own experiences and the experiences of the people that I’ve met in an attempt to try to de-mystify it for myself.  This is a fictional tale, but it is based on truths. And of course there are Pepper Pace twists and turns that are chilling at some moments and sweet and romantic at others.

SASSE:  Do you see this book as a single title or is it part of a new series?

Pepper: It is not a series. The Shadow People first appeared in print on Literotica.com as a free read several years ago. It was one and done with a neatly wrapped up ending. Before I pulled it for re-editing and publishing there were a lot of readers that enjoyed the story and characters and wanted to see more of them. Danielle is a pretty gutsy heroine and with her partner in crime I can see her tackling other paranormal mysteries. So if enough people want to see that happen they just need to let me know and I will make it happen.

SASSE:  Some authors say they pour themselves into a book. Are you one of those types of authors and do you get emotional along with the characters in the scenes you are writing?

Pepper: Definitely, Yvette! As the writer I have boo-hooed while writing scenes. I have cursed and asked a character ‘why you wanna go and do that???’ I’ve even tried to change the course of a character—only to go back and have to delete a mega-ton of writing in order to get them back on their own track. I am being taken on the same journey as you the reader. I feel more like a scribe than like an author.

My stories begin with an idea in which I allow my imagination to run away with. I see points A to Z, but once I begin to write it all unfolds organically without me trying to ‘make’ it go in a certain direction. Sometimes the book ends up in the direction that I had originally thought, but not always.

SASSE: What character in this book is most like Pepper? In looks, style or attitude?

Pepper: Danielle is like me in attitude. She has this ‘I will solve everything’ attitude. When things get scary she then hides her head under the covers. But when its do or die time Danielle is a fighter and she will scrap to get the job done.

SASSE: What can readers expect next from the mind of Pepper Pace?

Pepper: I’m writing a novella (I think it will be a novella) entitled Second Chances. It is about a woman that gets ‘caught-up’. She is just like you and me and many other women who are trying to make their ends meet, give their children a good life and stay out of the cross-hairs of the debt collector. She is a good person but makes a mistake that sends her to jail. In jail her story begins and a new world unfolds for her. I’m trying to explain to my number 1 Beta Reader that some bad things have a silver lining—especially if your prison guard is a big, scary looking downhome country boy that hates everyone except you.

SASSE: Pepper, I really enjoyed our chat. Thanks for stopping by at SASSE Sheets and sharing your book with us.

Pepper: Thank you for the invite—let me chug the last of my cognac before I leave!

Another Amazing Release by Sienna Mynx...Paper Dolls

Hello SASSE Readers, let’s welcome the one and only Sienna Mynx to our SASSE World. It is spring and love is in the air, there’s not a better time for a romance writer I can think of. Now I get the great opportunity to sit back with one of my Scandalous sisters, sip some wine and chat.

SASSE: Sienna, you have been known for your Mafia men and dangerous, bad boy series, are you moving into a new genre of romance or something else?

Sienna: I don’t know if this story moves me into a new genre. My most popular books are the bad boy mafia type stories. Yes I freely admit that. But I’ve written different kinds of women’s fiction and historical fiction in the past. The most comparable to Paper Dolls are my stories Before Sunrise, Bad Habits, Love After War. I think that as a writer one can exhaust themselves when just sticking to one type of story. After my last Battaglia book I needed the chance to tell the story of love from a different angle.

Buy it now!
SASSE:  How did this story come about? Where did you come up with the title Paper Dolls?

Sienna: The story was written in 2006 as a free blog story. It was based on three friends and their lives in the South Beach, Miami popular scene. I’m from Miami and always loved the flavor of my city and the fast lifestyle many people lived. It’s a juicy backdrop for some good storytelling. Fast-forward to today and the world of celebrity today and I find it very different from when I originally wrote the story. We have selfie-queens, over-hyped musicians and spoiled celebrities. I decided to delve into that TMZ world with my three ladies and see where the story could take us.

SASSE:  Tell us about the Paper Dolls book. Why did you decide to tell these three women’s stories in one? Is it an anthology?

Sienna: It is three stories that make up a whole story. So I consider it three books for the price of one. Paper Dolls focuses on the lives of a celebrity publicist, a fallen R&B singer, and a celebrity hair stylist who were college friends and formed a very strong bond when one of them reach fame. The story begins with a shattered marriage, a love triangle, and a woman who whose lost faith in the man she’s loved for years. It’s friendship that keeps the ladies strong and faith in the men in their lives that bring us all through the tale.

SASSE:  What was the challenge of this book?

Sienna: The biggest challenge for me was keeping each woman’s tale different and unique. With the way social media tells us all the dirty secrets of celebrities constantly it’s hard to be surprised by anything in the world of fame and fortune. I constantly juggled between the human element of our ladies from the flash, ego-tripping world they lived in.

SASSE: If Hollywood called what three actresses would you see playing Raven, Valentina and Zephyr?

Sienna: I know that I had picked Zoe Saldana for Zephyr. I would love Kerry Washington to play Raven, and my ideal woman for Valentina was Lauren Hill before she disappeared from the pop scene.

SASSE: What can readers expect next from the desk of Sienna Mynx?

Sienna: I am doing a story of an older woman and younger man. A really interesting love story that I’ve never told before. Expect that soon.

SASSE: Sienna, I really enjoyed our chat. Thanks for stopping by at SASSE Sheets and sharing your book with us.
