About Me

My photo
I love romance and writing it is one of my greatest pleasures. Along with writing romance, I love sitting back and talking with authors that love romance just as much as I do. Since I've been reading romance since I was sixteen years old I am a book lover that still reads lots of books in a month. So, weekly I will also post my book picks. They may be picks that are new releases or maybe a favorite book of mine. On this blog you will see books featured by ALL romance genres.

A Special Kind of Author interviews Yvette Hines

Went to Las Vegas for a week to attend the first annual Romance Novel Convention hosted by the world acclaimed cover model Jimmy Thomas. It was a great opportunity to meet the new cover models he will be having on his RNC stock image site as well as get to meet readers and most of all put faces and hugs to those fellow authors I have meet on Facebook. Jamallah Bergman is one such author. I’ve known her online, but meeting her was a complete joy. What does the third place winner of the “Best Erotica Cover” RONE Award do after she wins? She sits down and interviews another author. Just shows how awesome of an author she is. Here is part one of our interview, part two Jamallah will have posted on her blog soon…stay tuned.

Jamallah: Before we start talking about your book, why don’t you tell everybody a little bit about yourself?

Yvette: First of all, thanks for having me here Jamallah. I’m the youngest of two and the oldest of five, so at times I don’t know whether I should be following or leading. LOL. I was a counselor for fifteen years and I have a degree in teaching English Literature. I loved books since I was sixteen.

Jamallah: Besides writing, what other things do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Yvette: Spending time with my husband and daughter playing old fashion board games. We are currently battling for SORRY championship. We are also huge movie goers so most weekend nights we’re sitting in a dark theater. Most of all I love to travel and see the world to meet new interesting people and try amazing foods.

Jamallah: What is your daily routine as far as when you have an idea for your story?

Yvette: The first thing I do is write a blurb or short description for a new story idea. It gives me the main conflict and the characters names, that’s all I need. Rarely, do I start a story without one; even though once the story is complete I may have to tweak it a little. Then I am up at four or five in the morning before a blank sheet of paper and I just start writing for about two hours straight.

Jamallah: Where do you get your ideas from?

Yvette: I know everyone usually says life, but it is true. Strangers around me always inspire a story. I love to watch them, see how they interact, with children and without. Sometimes a negative situation like a husband that ignores his wife always makes me want to rewrite that woman’s life with a better man in it.

Jamallah: Out of all of the stories you’ve written so far, what would be your favorite and why?

Yvette: Usually, my favorite story is always the one that I just finished. Whether it is a long or short story, I fall in love with those characters every time. I laugh when they laugh and I cry when they cry, it becomes the single most important story to tell and when I have told it I just feel so good about it I want to sit and read it from start to finish. Which is what I do after every story is released. I buy the very first copy even before I promote it to readers and let them know it is out then I read it cover to cover.

Jamallah: Tell us something funny about yourself that not a lot of people know about?

Yvette: I’m almost six foot tall and I can’t play a single sport. I’m a klutz who is always worried I’m going to go tumbling down the stairs or trip, general I do. However, it doesn’t stop me from wearing five inch heels if they are comfortable. Also, when I get sleepy, generally around eight at night, because I’m an early bird, I get silly and corny.

Jamallah: Does any of the stories you’ve written based on real life experiences or basically just from imagination?

Yvette: A mix of both, Jamallah. Remember I said I’m a big movie watcher? Something on the big screen generally sparks my mind and that connected with things from the news combined with experiences of my own and people I know creates the stories for me.

Jamallah: Does your ‘muse’ have a name and if so what is his/her name?

Yvette: Yes, SHE, that is it plain and simple. SHE is bold, confident and determined and SHE has a heart as big as the sun when it comes to my heroes and heroines finding their happily-ever-after.

Jamallah: What other genre besides the one you are writing about now would you like to venture into writing?

Yvette: American Western Historical, there are interracial stories out there of love and commitment that never make the news, the papers or anywhere except in family records.

Jamallah: Who are your favorite authors that are out now?

Yvette: There are so many because I have enjoy extremely different stories when I read for leisure. My favorite historical authors are Beverly Jenkins, Lorraine Heath, Cheryl Holt and Jennifer Ashley. When I want a great BDSM I pick up Bridget Midway and Cherise Sinclair, Qwillia Rain or Eliza Gayle.  And when it comes to bad boys and the ultimate alpha’s I love I chase down Aliyah Burke and Sienna Mynx. Finally, sometimes I want to just hear the drawl of a cowboy and I go to Cat Johnson or Lorelei James.

Jamallah: Who is your favorite female and male characters from your books and why?

Yvette: All of them. I know that may sound a little silly, but it is true. They all have a different story and “life”, so it would be like choosing a favorite child.

Jamallah: What do you think is the hardest thing about being a writer?

Yvette: Only being one person. I have so many stories I want to write at one time that sometimes I feel like I’m going mad. LOL.

Jamallah: What advice would you give someone who wants to start off being a writer?

Yvette: Go to romance conferences like Romance Novel Convention that have writing craft workshops—learn it.

Jamallah: If you hadn’t become a writer, what do you think you would be doing right now?

Yvette: Still a counselor or teaching at a college.

Jamallah: What would be the perfect Romantic getaway?

Yvette: If I didn’t go to Venice than I would say Greece, to watch the sunset with my husband, walk the city and relax.

Jamallah: Well now that we got the question and answer out of the way…..why don’t you tell us about your latest story you have out now?

Yvette: I have a .99 lingerie series for voluptuous women. It generally is referred to as the curvy girl erotic shorts. They are romantic stories that give woman of all races a voice, sexy heroes and show their confidence about their shape in sexy lingerie. The stories are connected, so one leads to another.

The first was Love in the Afternoon and the second one that just released is Nightie Night.

Kalan Henderson has had her eyes set on Aaren Reston for the last two years. When the sexy, brown-haired hunk with light green eyes became the newest senior executive at her job she knew she had to have him. However, over the years he hasn’t given her an ounce of encouragement that he’d be receptive to the idea of something in the recreational department between them. That is until she’s selected to work extra hours with him on an assignment.

Six weeks of discovering Aaren is more than a hot body and pretty face has just made Kalan lust after him even more. Then one night everything changed and the after hour’s heat exploded to a level she could never have imagined. But soon Kalan discovers that the man of her dreams may have secrets that will wreck the fantasy of what they could have in an instant.

Excerpt from Nightie Night~

“That sounds really good.” I looked over the items slowly, repeating each name in my head just to keep my imagination from roaming.

“If not that then their lasagna rivals anyone’s.” He pointed at the item on the menu causing his finger to brush the tip of mine.

I’d been a fool to believe that it was not possible to feel sexual desire from a light touch in a non-sexual place. Because desire sizzled down my arm from the place of contact and blazed a determined trail to my pussy. It was as if he’d stroked my clit. Shit, I was in trouble if I stayed for dinner.

Glancing at him, I saw he wasn’t looking at the menu as I suspected but at me. He was in the process of scanning my body. Sitting beside me, he could see the swell of my cleavage in between the parted fabric of my blouse and possibly a hint of the magenta corset I was wearing. I believed a girl had to enhance her figure whenever possible. Especially when you were a thick woman you had to ensure all your curves were always on perfect display.

When his gaze rose and met mine, I saw how his light green eyes had darkened to almost a forest green. That look excited me. Over the years we had worked together I always believed our attraction was on one side—my side. However, I couldn’t mistake the look he’d given me for anything but interest.

“Kalan?” His tone was thick and husky.

My name came out like a caress from his lips. I lowered my eyes to those thin, firm lips, a pale pink color, and wanted to lick them from corner to corner.

He swallowed. “Have you decided?” he asked in a calm voice.

I wasn’t sure how he’d pulled that tone off and gotten himself under control so fast when I felt like I was going insane with lust. Yes, I had decided, I wanted to get to know this man and having a meal with him was perfect place to start. “Lasagna. I’ll have the lasagna.”

“Perfect. I’ll do the same.” Rising, he crossed the room in a steady strut.

I enjoyed watching the play of muscles below his shirt and the round tightness of his ass. My palm itched to stroke them and feel the firmness.
