Tell the readers a little about yourself. Why did you decide to be a part of
Shades of Desire with your fellow authors?
SoD Author Chanta: I felt like I
won the lotto when I got into this box set. And let me tell you, I never win
anything. The last time I came close was when I was in second grade and I won a
bundt cake at a school Halloween party. But I digress. I’m a member of a Yahoo
Group called Indie Ink Romance Ink. This loop has fantastic tips about the
craft of romance writing, as well as invaluable information about marketing and
promoting.
Bestselling
USA Today author, Wendy Ely, sent a request on the loop asking if anyone was
interested in being in a box set. I immediately replied, giving her all of my
credentials, and telling her how I felt I could contribute to the box set. To
my amazement and delight, she contacted me back and said I was included! I
think over one hundred authors responded, but she could only choose ten. So
that’s why I felt like I won the lotto. Then, when I met the other talented
authors in the set, I knew we had a winner with Shades of Desire.
SASSE:
How did you come up with this story? What is your story about?
SoD Author Chanta: My story is
called Resisting Destiny. It’s a hot, steamy interracial romance.
Cayson Sullivan thinks women are good for two
things: Lovin’ and Leavin’. As the youngest attorney at one of St. Louis’s
premier law firms, he plays to win both in and out of court. Destiny Jackson has
seen hard times all of her life. She’s survived by using her wits and her
sexuality.
Thrown
together by a spiteful judge, Cayson is appointed Destiny’s guardian for ninety
days. Taking care of her proves no easy task, especially since she comes with a
cast of characters that continually push his buttons.
The two soon find that despite their backgrounds
being as different as night and day, their attraction to each other is the one
thing they can agree upon. The book is filled with witty dialogue and of
course, lots of steamy sex.
SASSE: Do you use celebrity inspiration for your
characters? If so, who inspired your hero and heroine?
SoD Author Chanta: I have used
celebrity inspiration in the past. The evil socialite in my novella, Too Hot to
Handle, was patterned after Kim Kardashian.
But for Resisting Destiny, I didn’t use a celebrity. Although for
Cayson’s personality, I did try to channel Blair Underwood’s character from L.A.
Law. I’m showing my age—that show was so long ago! But super sexy Blair made it
hard to forget. Hmm…That’s a good book title. Hard to Forget. Mommie like!
SASSE:
Is your story in the boxset part of a series? If it is, where does it fall in
the line up?
SoD Author Chanta: Yes, it’s Book
3 in my Resisting Love series. But you don’t have to have read the other two
books in the series, Resisting Cupid and Resisting Temptation. They all feature
the Sullivan Brothers, who weren’t looking for love, but it found them!
SASSE:
For fun, tell the readers and interesting factoid about you?
SoD Author: I’m a Walking
Dead fan and comic book collector. I have the first issue of The Walking Dead
comic. It originally sold for $3.99 back in 2003, and now it’s worth over
$2,500 in mint condition. Not a bad investment. I’m still looking for that
Amazing Fantasy #15 (first appearance of Spider Man – valued at $1 Million) and
Action Comics #1 (first appearance of Superman – valued at $3.2 Million). So,
if anyone finds one of these, call me—that’s the real lotto!

Tell the readers a little about yourself. Why did you decide to be a part of
Shades of Desire with your fellow authors?
SoD Author Valerie: I saw a call go out for interest in a box set
and I answered. I couldn’t think of a better way to get my stories in front of
more readers than collaborating with other authors.
SASSE:
How did you come up with this story? What is your story about?
SoD Author Valerie: I was
originally inspired by a photo of a sexy Spanish police office floating around
Facebook. From there my crazy imagination took off and I decided to write about
a Jinn who gets his power taken away and becomes stranded in Spain. Though I’ve
never been to Spain, I find the country exotic and thought it would make a
spicy story.
SASSE: Do you use celebrity inspiration for your
characters? If so, who inspired your hero and heroine?
SoD Author Valerie: I can’t say
that I have been inspired by a celebrity. Sexy photos tend to inspire me along
with my imagination.
SASSE:
Is your story in the boxset part of a series? If it is, where does it fall in
the line up?
SoD Author Valerie: It will be,
but this is the first book. I hope to have the second one out early 2016.
SASSE:
For fun, tell the readers and interesting factoid about you?
SoD Author Valerie: I cry at those
animal abuse commercials. My husband has to flip the channel when they come on.
